Alberta Municipal Affairs introduced the Municipal Sponsorship Program (MSP) in 1998. The objective of the MSP is to provide support for projects that:

• improve municipal governance or administration;
• enhance municipal services or service delivery; and/or
• increase intermunicipal cooperation.

The MSP is based on the premise that a municipal council will identify their municipal project needs. The Program will provide financial assistance for these projects through a conditional grant.
