Vulcan County welcomes Jenny Tu, the new municipal intern working at the Vulcan County administration building.
Tu was selected by the county as part of a new provincially-administered program. This program is designed to get people interested in municipal governments.
Interested candidates submit a work program, successful candidates are then contacted by the government. There are total of 15 spaces available each year.
The interns come from all different kinds of backgrounds, from new grads to retirees. They share different education, from political science to financial planning. The mix is quite unique.
Vulcan’s new intern grew up in China and graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 2005. Tu is now a Certified Management Accountant.
Tu hopes to contribute her accounting and financial skills to improve the prosperity of Vulcan County.
Gary Buchanan, County Administrator, said Tu is just what the county needed.
“Jenny comes to us with a background in finance,” said Buchanan. “Finance was one of our needs.”
Buchanan said the Tu is stating to grasp how government operates.
“She’s starting to understand how a rural municipality works,” said Buchanan. “It’s her first month, but she’s doing quite well.”
From all of us here at the Advocate, we wish to give a warm welcome to Jenny and congratulate her on accepting this position.
