New municipal intern in town

Intern shared with Beaumont and county

Beaumont and Leduc County have a new municipal intern.

“I’m incredibly excited.  Mixed with fear,” said Christine Cernucan

After fours years at the University of Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon native will embark on a year-long internship, starting in Beaumont.

The 21-year-old took international studies while in post-secondary, studying politics, economics and French, among other things.  She also spent a semester abroad in Thailand.  Cernucan found out about the internship opportunity in her fourth year of school.

She wanted to stay relatively close to home instead of going international again.

Cernucan will spend five months in Beaumont before heading to Leduc County for five more.  There will also be a project of her choice that she will spend two months on.

Three weeks will be spent in each department, including government, management, finances and economic development.  Her current project is the aquatic centre plebiscite which will be held May 28.

“No projects have yet been delegated,” said Cernucan about what comes next.

“I’ll be working them jointly or working on them myself.”

Cernucan hopes her stint in Alberta will prepare her, within the next five years, to become a chief administration officer (CAO) for a town.

“I was wondering if I wasn’t chosen what I was going to do with my life,” she laughed.  “I’m very, very happy.”
