January 28, 2009 - Building Canada Fund - Communities of less than 100,000 across Alberta can now apply to the Building Canada Fund - Communities Component (BCF-CC).  Communities can access information on the fund and how to apply for funding at www.buildingcanadafundalberta-cc.ca.  Libraries are included under culture in the nine categories of infrastructure that are eligible for funding.  Projects require the sponsorship of your municipality.  Projects will be evaluated by a federal-provincial committee through a competitive application-based process.  The intake closes on March 15, 2009.

April 14, 2009 - Community Spirit Donation Grant Program - Under this program, the Alberta Government, provides funds to registered charities based on the value of eligible cash donations. (A minimum of $1,000 of cash donations is required prior to applying for a donation grant).  The next deadline for this grant is December 31, 2009.  Maximum donation grant is $25,000 per year, with total donation grants not to exceed $50,000 over three years.  Donation grants can be used to support operations, programs, and/or capital projects.  Watch for Information Sessions to be held in various locations around the province during September and October.  For more information visit  www.culture.alberta.ca/communityspirit
